George Hamilton-Gordon, 4th Earl of Aberdeen (28 January 1784 – 14 December 1860), known as Lord Haddo from 1791 to 1801, was a British statesman, diplomat, and landowner who served as a Tory, Conservative, and Peelite politician and foreign affairs specialist. From 1852 until 1855, he was Prime Minister in a coalition of Whigs and Peelites, with Radical and Irish support. Aberdeen's ministry was full with powerful and skilled politicians whom Aberdeen struggled to control and direct. Despite his efforts, it led Britain into the Crimean War and crumbled when its actions proved unpopular, following which Aberdeen departed from politics.
